Small by comparison, Nash's Veggies, a first generation farm, is committed to putting food on your table the old fashion way. Situated in northern Sussex County, the farm rest upon 3.11 acres of Ingleside sandy loam soil. It's a homestead style layout consisting of 1 acre of garden blocks, a 16 X 32 heated greenhouse and a 16 X 100 unheated hoop house. So far, everything is fed by a 4 inch well and a garden hose. Though we do have a small tractor, 90% of our input is human powered, using tools that would be familiar to our grandparents. This doesn't mean we're afraid of technology. Small scale Ag tools are moving in leaps and bounds, very exciting stuff! We gladly utilize any tools or gadgets that come along and improve our efficiency and/or quality of life. We grow on a really tight cropping system that allows us to get a large volume of crop on a small volume of land. Tight spacing allows more crop from a given area and multiple crop rotations per bed, allowing us to utilize every square foot all season long Taking an all natural approach to growing, we go above and beyond to ensure clean and sustainable vegetables. We incorporate large amounts of compost in our system as well as supplemental local animal manures and naturally occurring rock minerals. We are deeply committed to the health of our soil and the quality therein. It really is everything! As far as spraying is concerned, we try to keep it to a minimum. Even though anything we use is certified organic, we hesitate to interrupt the systems at play, including beneficial insects, healthy bacteria and the soil based fungal web. We also keep bees on the property and play host to hundreds of pollinators, so we use an abundance of caution when deciding how to fight pest and disease. We are committed to growing the highest quality, nutrient dense produce and doing so with the lease environmental impact. All while serving our community and surrounding communities.
