Geraldson Community Farm is an organic CSA membership farm in Northwest Bradenton. As an educational working farm, we are here to provide you with the freshest organic produce and also offer multiple avenues to connect with the growing process. During the growing season (November to May), you can become a member have access to freshly picked veggies each week! Read on for more information. How You Can Get Fresh Produce: The farm is structured as a Community Support Agriculture (CSA) program. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a unique relationship of mutual support and commitment between a farm and community members for an entire growing season. CSA members purchase a share of organic vegetables for the growing season, November-May. Members decide to receive a share weekly (full share) or bi-weekly (half share). A share consists of a variety of different vegetables that are fresh, healthy, and safe. The price of the share enables the farm to cover operating costs. Members receive their share of vegetables throughout the season, grown and harvested by the farmers they have come to know and trust. Members are also encouraged to connect with the land through volunteering or "U-Pic". The farm opens certain fields of crops on pick up days for members to harvest for themselves. As a Geraldson Community Farm CSA member you know where, when and how your food is being produced. With your support as a member we are able to continue to preserve the farm for sustainable agriculture, offer a facility for training new farmers through our apprenticeship program, as well as provide a learning environment for school groups and the community through tours, workshops and volunteer opportunities. The 2013-2014 season will run for 26 weeks from November 13, 2013- May 17, 2014. Geraldson Community Farm offers various pick up times at the farm and delivery sites throughout the Sarasota, Venice and Tampa Bay Area. Other farm activities Activities at the farm include member potlucks, educational programs for adults and school groups. History of the farm Geraldson Community Farm was bought by Manatee County in 2005 from the Geraldson family. The family lives next door to the property and wanted to make sure it would be preserved for agricultural use. The Florida West Coast RC&D worked to develop a plan to ensure its preservation and in January 2007 the Manatee Board of County Commissioners signed a contract with the RC&D to begin development of Geraldson Community Farm. The location in Northwest Bradenton is immediately south of the Palma Sola Botanical Park and across 99th Street NW from the Robinson Preserve. See www.geraldsoncommunityfarm.org for more information
