We are a seventh generation family owned farm. We can trace our Hopkins ancestors back to 1834 on this same location in upstate SC. We have many acres of hardwoods and open pasture land. We sell hay to local farmers for winter feeding of livestock. We also have a Heritage Poultry Farm. We raise heritage breed chickens, turkeys and ducks. I also bred my own poultry to produce fertile eggs that I hatch to increase genetic numbers. Our breeds include the New Hampshire and Delaware chicken, Bronze turkey and Silver Appleyard ducks. All of these birds are standard heritage breeds listed within the American Poultry Associations Standard of Prefection. The guide to follow for breeding and producing poultry. We are striving to improve the genetic lineage of these 4 varieties of fowl. Birds that are culled each season are then harvested for sell as meat. We also sell eggs from all of the varieties. The farm is an active member of the Sustainable Poultry Network.
In addition, we follow traditional organic vegetable gardening throughout the year. Our winters in upstate SC tend to be mild so outdoor gardening is possible. We are installing a High Tunnel to increase our ability to plant earlier within the tunnel. Our produce products are sold to local restaurants that practice the 'farm to fork' philosophy. This year we are also involved with a local CSA. Sunflowers, gladolias and zinnas are available to the public for sale during the summer months.
