Ninepatch is a small family farm located about 15 minutes northwest of Wausau. The Carlson family carefully nurtures 120 acres with a view to sustaining healthy pastures, water quality and wildlife habitat for generations to come. Only natural soil amendments are used. We use no herbicides, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics on our livestock or our land. We raise purebred Galloway beef cattle, a heritage breed from Scotland well suited to out-wintering in Wisconsin. Our beef is 100% grassfed from start to finish. Cows are bred so as to calve after the first flush of green grass in the spring and the calves remain with their mothers throughout the summer, fall and winter. Steers are processed locally after reaching two years of age resulting in a full-flavored gourmet quality beef which is sold by the cut, or by the quarter or half. Pastured poultry is another piece of the whole here at Ninepatch. Chickens are raised in lightweight pens that are moved to fresh grass each morning. They also receive a grain ration each day. The birds are processed at 8 weeks and weigh between 5 & 7 pounds. Chicken is sold fresh from our farm, and at the Wausau Farmer's Market every two weeks from June through October. Turkeys are allowed to free-range on pasture protected from predators by poultry netting. They are available fresh in November. We also free-range laying hens along with roosters for eggs, which are available year round. Pork is another Ninepatch product. We raise heritage breed hogs like Tamsworth or Berkshires and sell pork by the half or whole hog. You may also enjoy our "Little Chicago" weiners, bratwurst, or Italian sausages all made with our own pork and beef. We welcome visits to our farm, but would appreciate that you call ahead. Please also call or e-mail to receive a farm brochure or order form or to ask questions about availability or prices.
