Lick Run Farm and Community Market

Lick Run is a developing urban farm in Roanoke's inner-city. We are creating a permacultural example of a human scale farm as part of a larger project of neighborhood revitalization. We have about one half acre devoted to annual row crop production. Another part of our acreage is being developed into a forest garden including polycultures of perennial food crops and herbal medicinal plants. We strive to provide a steady and diverse supply of biologically grown vegetables, herbs, and herbal medicinals primarily for our local neighborhood, which is a USDA identified food desert. But we also supply other local markets as well as restaurants and grocery stores. The Lick Run Community Market fronts on a busy through street and serves primarily our neighbors. The long range vision is for the market space to become an inviting, walkable, human scale, neighborhood gathering place and commercial center.
