Many Hands Farm of Hatcher Creek

Once a tobacco farm, we are now a small family farm located just a few minutes away from the beautiful Red River Gorge in Powell County, Kentucky. We grow many different varieties of vegetable, with a few berries, gourds, melons and herbs thrown in. We are a non certified organic farm as we do not use any chemical fertilizers, or pesticides/herbicides. We believe that in order for the food that sustains us to reach its full potential, the soil in which it grows should be as healthy as possible. Our first year (2 years ago), everything that was grown (minus a little for my family) was donated to a local program to help first time parents. Last year, we changed our direction and became a for-profit CSA so that we would have income to continue to donate produce to local charities. This year we endeavor to expand our memberships further while getting more involved with our community to help educate our youth and residents about how to grow their own food and the benefits of locally grown, healthy produce in the diet. We are looking to provide enough for roughly 25 CSA members this year. Deliveries should begin around mid-April (weather permitting) and continue through September/October (again, weather permitting). The cost of this year's CSA membership is $450. We are currently accepting members for the 2011 season so please contact us if you would like more information. We also encourage and accept volunteers. Want to get out in the sun for a little while and forget the stress of your workday? Or, maybe you want to show your children where the food on their plates comes from. Look no further. You can come out for an hour or a few, or stay all day if you like. Just give us a call ahead. But, maybe you're looking for something a little more intensive. We also welcome volunteers on a somewhat extended basis (generally a few days). In return for your hard work, you will receive room and board as well as an intense feeling of satisfaction and reward. Space, however, is extremely limited, so please contact us as far in advance as possible for reservations.
