Lydia's Fields is the newest addition to the vibrant farming community 10 miles west of Leesburg, in Loudon County, Virginia that is also known as Wheatland. On 10 acres, we are carrying on the long local tradition of cultivating over a dozen varieties of scrumptious heirloom tomatoes, hakurei turnips, arugula, lettuce, herbs, kale, peppers and other greens. We also intend to add strawberries and other fruit to the yummy figs we sold in 2012.
Our Mission: We grow fruit and vegetables in harmony with nature and share our knowledge of small-scale farming with anyone curious to learn more about healthful, locally grown produce.
Our Growing Practices:
We focus on restoring the fertility of our soil through cover cropping, composting and, in a rarity for a farm of our small acreage, letting the land rest.
Our Future Plans:
We are only one year old, but we have big plans to install an orchard, expand our perennials, sell fresh pickles, build a barn, and a hoop house for season extension, and generally continue diversifying our operations.
