After working on a certified organic vegetable farm in Minnesota I learned the ins and outs of farming organically. Our operation is not certified although we're working towards becoming Certified Naturally Grown. We use a blend of methods to control weeds such as occultation, landscape fabric, hay, flame weeding, and hand cultivation. To control fungal diseases or insects we use only OMRI listed products. Our fertility program involves putting down composted chicken manure or feather meal and then raking out plenty of compost. We use Low-till methods in our production as well.
We plant mostly hybrid varieties with a few heirlooms mixed in. We do not plant any GMO varieties and use untreated or organic seed for direct seeding and transplants.
