Cooperative 518 is a collaboration of individuals with the shared vision of a holistically healthful environment for the benefit of all beings. We are committed to providing seasonal, nutrient-dense food to the surrounding communities using organic and permaculture methods. Permaculture is a holistic approach to agriculture which strives to create diverse, balanced ecosystems that promote health and fertility through mimicking wild natural systems. The Co-op 518 farm is home to chickens, ducks, cats, a farm dog, a pig and seven individuals and features vegetables, herbs, flowers, a small upcycled greenhouse, seasonal high tunnel and two tiny homes. Through mindful practices, Cooperative 518 strives to harness resources efficiently and minimize waste produced. In addition to the farming practice, we aim to provide education on responsible, healthful living; build community and strengthen the local economy. We strive to change the agricultural mindset from how will we feed the world? to how will we feed ourselves? to encourage individual responsibility for the world we share. Our intention is to share local food as a catalyst for culminating a local culture which is unique to this area.
