Steady Hand Farm grows chemical-free produce for people who savor locally raised beautiful, flavorful produce. We market our produce direct to customers with an 18-week Summer Share CSA, and a 4-week Fall Storage Share. We also sell our produce through Hungry Turtle Farmer's Cooperative based here in Amery. We will hire 1-2 Interns for the 2015 season as we pack 75 shares and make weekly sales to wholesale clients.
We raise our produce on 5 acres of a 70-Acre farm situated in the mixed pine birch forests and lake country of Polk County near St. Croix Falls and Amery, WI. The Apple River flows to our south, and our neighbors include humans, horses, otters, insects galore and deer (lots of deer!).
We are making our home and raising produce on land we are leasing from EcoForest Farm. In growing here, we are bringing together a rich tradition of annual vegetable production in Wisconsin, combined with the recent movement within sustainable agriculture of perennial agro-forest production or permaculture.
We farm because we love growing food, working outside and messing in the dirt. We love everything about raising vegetables from seeding, planting, and harvesting it to preparing, eating and sharing it. Simply put, we raise food for the pleasure it brings.
As for how we grow, we use safe practices no synthetic chemical pesticides, no herbicides and we consider and promote biological diversity in our production plans. We wouldnt do it any other way. We want food that is safe for our family, friends and neighbors. And just as we want to keep our human community vibrant, healthy, we want to preserve the good life of our companions in this work: the soil, plants, insects and animals with which we share land.
