Have been shopping here for almost a decade. Never disappointed and always impressed by the quality and the customer service! I have received many comments over the years from dinner guests who can?t believe how delicious the meat is, anything from beef broth soup, tacos, steaks or roasts. And I now it?s not just my cooking, in fact I really doubt it, but I do believe it?s the quality of the meat from HedgeApple Farm.
Even now during the pandemic their service is outstanding!
Highly recommend it.

I have been sampling other sources of grass fed beef for about two years now. We were about to quit the search for grass fed beef that wasn't tough and tasteless compared with the usual grain fed beef. Because of health concerns, we had gone almost vegetarian. Hedgeapple Farm has been a wonderful find to be able to enjoy guilt free beef again. We find the taste and texture more to our liking than any of the most acclaimed sources of grocery store beef. Thanks from Chuck & Dottie in AZ to all at Hedgeapple Farm for your dedication to producing a superior and more healthful source of beef.

I used to pass this place all the time and eventually wandered in to see what was what. After checking out the nice digs - the room looked great - I decided to pick out a Rib Eye since that is what real men eat. Anyway, I was only used to the really low prices from the grocery store and was a little taken back by the price per pound. The guy who was educating me told me to buy it, eat it and he would refund me if it wasn't the best I ever had. So I took him up on the offer. It ended up being the best I ever had! I've eaten at the top Steak Houses in Baltimore for years and this was in a different league completely. This incident took place a few years ago. Today I just went and bought some more as a present to someone who needed to know how thankful I was. This was the only place I knew would impress enough to send the signal of appreciation. I can't recommend this place enough.

This past Saturday (9/14) I had a nice visit with Dr. Scott Barao at Hedgeapple Farm and because of my previous bad experience(s) with Grass-Fed Beef, I asked Scott to educate me; and that he did. I conveyed to Scott that in previous experiences the beef was very `mutton-like', tasteless, and quite frankly despite the health advantages that it offered my wife & I were turned off with this type of beef. Scott educated me on the differences across the market on grass-fed products, and offered Hedgeapple Farm and their cattle raising techniques as a differential. So, I agreed to give it a try with a Hedgeapple Strip-steak and Tenderloin! As I conveyed to Scott earlier today, both were extraordinary with great taste and texture. I'm sold and an advocate! Thanks Scott!!!

I've been commuting between Cleveland, OH and Reston, VA for years and have driven by Hedgeapple Farm countless times. I stopped this year and picked up a standing rib roast for Christmas dinner and it was unanimous...the best roast we've ever had. The meat was so fabulous it required very little in actual preparation. The store is absolutely pristine and carries a wide array of products. I was very impressed. Next time I will have a cooler and plan accordingly for my trip home. Well worth the extra stop!!

I found Hedgeapple by accident a few days before Xmas, but will be coming back on a regular basis. Tried a few cuts to get a feel for the product and found that this may be the best beef I ever tasted. The burgers had a richness and depth of flavor that I have never experienced and cooking them to a nice medium rare on a hot grill was perfect.
I need to find a friend or two to split a freezer box. Worth the trip!

I'm not sure what we like most about Hedgeapple--the consistently tender and flavorful beef, the cheerful welcome and great service, or the beauty of the farm. They're all stellar.
We've bought the premium boxes of beef a number of times over the years, and compared them with the grass fed beef from our local grocery stores and other locally grown beef from the farmer's market.
Hedgeapple has had the best flavor and consistency, the quality is always very high and it has been handled with care in the processing and freezing process. Hard experience has taught us that not all local meat is as carefully grown and processed.
We feel we get a very good price break on the premium box, and the farm has been very accommodating about customizing the cuts as our family size has changed over the years.

Don't waste your time going anywhere else. Hedgeapple delivers with the best quality meat and customer service. Scott will ensure you leave happy and make sure you get the best deal for the amount of meat you want to buy. For example, I was just there and wanted to buy a large quantity of burgers and ground beef. Instead of buying just burgers in the individual 4 packs and ground beef in individual 1lb packs or 5lb packs, Scott recommended I do a box deal. He legitimately saved me a lot of money, instead of trying to make an extra dime for himself/the farm. The store is clean, the service is top notch and you will not beat the taste of their beef, guaranteed! It's worth the drive from the DC area!!!

I went to Hedgeapple and after much drooling, decided I better start with the 20-lb ground beef package, split it with my sister in law. The packaging is heavy duty on each 1-lb of ground beef, can let it thaw and it won't leak. The taste of this ground beef is absolutely delicious. I had to carefully defrost in the microwave once which I generally like to avoid, and it did not brown at the edges like can sometimes happen.
We bought the premium box today, and I must say I'm looking forward to trying some this weekend.
I worked with Scott on a custom box by email, the service he gave me was excellent. Pros - quality, taste, packaging, price (considering grass-fed local angus beef), Cons - none so far

We just purchased our second premium boxed beef assortment from Hedgeapple Farm, and couldn't be happier with the beef. We bought the same box last year (though there's some variability in the larger cuts - which we like because it lets us try out some new things) and were really impressed with the quality and the flavor of the beef. If you have some freezer space, I highly recommend picking up one of assortment packs, it's a huge savings off the full market price, and has a great selection of steaks, roasts and other cuts. We'll be back again next spring!

I have been buying Hedgeapple beef for about 2 years now and am a devoted customer. These are the most tender and flavorful steaks around. There is no going to back to grain-fed after these, and anyone who says grass fed is not tender owes it to themselves to try Hedgeapple. They remind me of the steaks I had in Argentina a few years ago, only these are even better. I picked up a Premium Boxed Assortment today and Dr. Barao kindly made a few substitutions for us. Just wish I had bought more Jerky as it did not survive the ride. My little girls love the burgers, and my wife and I love all the cuts - from the strips on the grill to the slow cooker items they are all delicious. They are the best - period.

If you consider yourself a "steak guy", you owe it to yourself to try some good grass-fed dry-aged beef. The flavor in this beef is amazing. And even though grass-fed beef is usually much leaner, HedgeApple has somehow bred their cows to marble impressively even on grass. We were looking for quality free range grass fed beef from farmers with integrity and a quick google search later we found Hedgeapple. We purchased a premium boxed assortment of meats which weighed a total of 44.7 lbs! We drove 1.5 hours to get to the Farm and believe me we were not disappointed! Every cut we've tried has been amazing - the T-bones, flank steak, sirloin, and ground beef. My favorite so far are the burgers we made. They were sooooo juicy and delicious. My fiancee and I first discovered Hedgeapple farm when we were invited over to our friends' house for burgers last summer. When I bit into my burger, I was blown away- it was the best tasting beef I had ever had! I'm not a huge red-meat eater, but this beef makes me want to eat it every night!
We immediately went to Hedgeapple and bought a 5 lb. chub of ground beef to make our own burgers, meatballs, and whatever else we could think of. I've bought other cuts of beef too- all of which are great- but the ground beef is my favorite. I have also bought bones for my dogs, beef jerky, and eggs from Hedgeapple on a regular basis.
The price for the ground beef is totally affordable. Anyone that says that they can't "afford" to buy grass-fed beef needs to shop here. It's about 2/3 of the price that I have been paying for grass-fed beef at the local co-op.
The staff is so friendly and helpful- I just love Hedgeapple!

We found Hedgeapple in the spring of 2010 and have traveled there every few weeks to stock up on beef and buy gift certificates. Everyone we've had contact with by phone, email, and in-person has been helpful and knowledgable. This Christmas was the true test of their customer service. We requested a 'tiny' two bone rib roast. At first Scott was reluctant to sell one so small since they are harder to cook without overcooking. We chatted a bit and when he found out we were aware of the peril but also had years of good 2-bone roast cooking experience he agreed. Fear not! That roast was the juiciest , most medium rare, most salt and pepper crisped exterior roast we've made by far. Thanks!

In the last year, I have become dedicated to eating only grass-fed beef. I have organized "cow-pools" with friends and gotten beef from several different farms in the MD and VA area. None of them could compare to the deal and the quality of beef from Hedgeapple and their box assortment.
Unlike buying a half our quarter cow, you end up with less ground beef and more of the cuts you want when you buy the boxed assortment. The delmonico ribeye is one of the greatest steaks I have ever eaten.
I have introduced my entire hockey team to Hedgeapple's beef and now they are all as impressed as I am. If you want to stop eating corn-fed beef filled with hormones and you don't want to spend a fortune on steaks from Whole Foods, make the trip to Hedgeapple.

Our family makes a trip out to Hedgeapple Farms every 6-8 weeks (~90 minute round trip) to stock the freezer with the absolute best steaks and roasts around. They are the only folks we've found that sell tri-tip, which is fantastic on the grill; we also really enjoy the sirloin steaks, which are wonderful cuts of meat at a great price for a weeknight / everyday of the week meal. And the 4 pound sirloin roast has become an expected dish when friends and family are in town.
Since the herd is usually right there, the little folks in the family also really like walking back to see the cows, too! (They aren't quite old enough to make the "what do the cows in the field do?" connection yet, but the steaks are so good we don't think it will be an issue when they do...)

My wife and I just tried one of the Deluxe Box assortments that Scott put together for us, and I don't believe we will ever buy meat from a grocery store again! The beef was tender and melted in your mouth. It was so full of flavor, it put all other meat to shame. Its hard to believe something that tastes so good is actually better for your health too.
The night after we tried Hedgeapple farm beef, we ate at a really expensive restaurant that was having a prime rib special - though the restaurant was very nice- the steak simply could't compare!
We cannot wait to try the rest of the meat selections.
Quality of meat aside, the quality of service at Hedgeapple is second to none. Scott was wonderful to deal with and perhaps the most knowledgeable butcher we have ever met.

I bought one of the farm's 40-50 lb. "premium beef box" a few weeks and have been living large ever since. I emailed Dr. Scott ahead of time and he was willing to swap out some comparably priced cuts for stuff my family likes. My box came with about 10 1-lb. packages and like the commenter below ours is almost gone. We've been making the best cheesburgers and spaghetti and meatballs we have ever eaten. My neighbors keep asking me for the recipe for the burgers. Tonight we finished two brontosaurus-sized t-bone steaks. One tip if you have never cooked was grass fed beef is to use slightly lower heat and get a good instant-read thermometer (like a Thermapen). Ours were perfect and better than almost anything I've ever had in a steak house. (And I found them a little better marbled than other grass-fed I have had.) The farm's cabin shop is organized and clean, and Scott is a true professional and will answer any questions you have. I will definitely be back!

Scott was amazing! When you talk to him, he treats you like you have known one another for years; I felt like giving him a big hug! It is so refreshing to see that there are still people out there who do business with a "family oreented" approach.
I am originally from Montana so I like to concider myself an expert on good steaks. All I can say is WOW! Every cut we purchased from Scott is tender and awesome. The price is fairly compareable to grocery store prices, and the meat itself is individually wrapped, bigger, and much better looking and tasting than anything you can buy in the store.
Again, being from Montana, I concider myself an afficianado of great jerky. To be frank, I have not had great jerky since leaving home. The jerky that Scott sells will blow your mind! It is among the best I have ever had and honestly, it was VERY unexpected and VERY appreciated.
To bring this review to a point, for as long as Hedgeapple is in business and as long as Scott is there stearing the boat, I will continue to purchase all of my beef from him.

Eatwild.com was a valuable resource because it helped us to find Hedgeapple Farm.
Dr. Scott Barao is wonderful! I emailed him almost every day for four days to ask various questions about pricing, products, quality, and even what kind of cooler we should bring to pick up our order. Dr. Scott is patient, kind, knowledgeable, and an all around nice guy.
He helped us to choose the best cuts of beef for the price we could afford to pay and was at the store to help us pack up.
The beef is absolutely delicious. We bought a bit of beef jerky and it is so yummy; and for the record, I am not a beef jerky fan.

You can't go wrong at Hedgeapple.

This is a great place to visit. Everything is wonderful, the staff more than courteous and helpful. I like supporting a local business, knowing that the animals the beef comes from are humanely treated, that what I'm eating and feeding family is healthful and wholesome. Have shared with family and friends who feel the same way. Gave a Hedgeapple Farm gift certificate last Christmas which went over well. I do stock up and get a better price on ground beef by buying in quantity and was happy to see 5 lb bulk packages at a great price. I'll be going back when we run low. I'm glad my sister told me about this place.

We found Hedgeapple Farm several years ago during "Family Festival at the Farm" I was so impressed with the staff, grounds, and animals! The cattle and land is treated carefully and with prudence. No wonder the beef tatstes great! We are big fans of the steaks, roasts, and ground beef. You can always find a good new recipe, too.

I no longer buy beef from the grocery store...only from Hedgeapple Farm. It is excellent quality and thanks to their beef, my daughter (age 6) loves steak! I found Hedgeapple after reading Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. The people to run the store are friendly and helpful. Good stuff!

Hedgeapple Beef is the only beef we eat. I love the purity of its taste, and I know it is healthy. It's also important for me to know that the cows are humanely raised and processed...good for the environment, good for the cows and good for the consumer. Since it's just my husband and me and our dog, I don't like buying large quantities, so the convenience of buying specialty cuts when I want and need them appeals to me.

We have been buying beef from HedgeApple Farms for about 2 years. Clean, healthy, great tasting roasts, steaks and burgers. Scott and Ryan are always ready to help anyway they can, from recipes to a hand getting our purchases out to the car. If you like beef, you'll love HedgeApple beef. If you don't like store bought beef, do yourself a favor, try some HedgeApple beef. :)
BTW ... Its the ONLY beef my 20 year old Celiac daughter can eat. She can taste the difference between grain feed mystery meat from the grocery store and real, grass feed, hormone/antibiotic free HedgeApple Beef!!! So can we!
Blessing to all the team at HedgeApple Farms. We are glad your local to us up in Thurmont.

I enjoyed farm raised beef in Ohio and we despaired of finding something suitable here that was reasonably priced. WONDERFUL WONDERFUL beef-we bought a variety of steaks and ground beef. My husband was more the meat person but this is the kind of beef you enjoy and are still going "mmm" hours later. 100% agreement with the other reviewer who said it was the best beef ever. We will be back!!!

As my husband read more and more books about the safety and quality of our food supply, we became quite anxious to find a way to purchase beef that tasted good and was raised in an environment that we could feel good about. Imagine how happy we were to discover Hedgeapple Farm just miles from our house. This is the only place where we'll buy beef and we've never been disappointed. The taste of the beef is always exceptional and the healthy, natural environment that the cattle are raised in is a major factor for our support of this local farm.
The atmosphere in the store is always friendly and inviting and we look forward to our monthly shopping excursions at Hedgeapple Farm.

When Hedgeapple Farm opened its historic cabin store I was thrilled! Since we have limited freezer space I was pleased to be able to buy smaller quantities of beef.
My husband is a big fan of their beef jerky. In fact we gave away bags of Hedgeapple Farms beef jerky as Christmas goodies. Everyone loved the taste and texture of the product.
In fact I get requests for Hedgeapple Farms meat when I entertain friends for dinner.
I am glad that the products are frozen so that I can transport them easily to my family who live in Virginia.
I have always been quite happy with the quality of the meat and the customer service in the store.

I was vegetarian for decades and then my acupuncturist strongly recommended eating red meat. The only way I could bring myself to do it is if I could find locally raised, grass-fed beef. Wow, we all are feeling so much better.
Grass fed is delicious!!! Scott is a joy to visit. We are very grateful you're doing what you are doing.

I have adored chicken since I was a little girl and have it about 6 times a week, untillllllllllllllll I had a steak from Hedgeapple. Now, I will make a trip from Bethesda, periodically, to get steaks and their pulled beef. The taste is 'out of this world', and has turned me on to beef. I love sharing it with my grandchildren because I know that it is organic and safe for them to eat. That is , probably, the highest compliment I can give to Hedgeapple Farms--the little children love the taste and it doesn't have all the additives that are harmful to them.

The prices are reasonable and the quality is outstanding. My daughter's favorite is the ground beef and my husband loves the ribeye steaks. You just can't go wrong here. We love knowing where our food is coming from.

I first went to Hedgeapple Farm after a large ground beef recall used up my last nerve with grocery store beef. I found the selection of cuts excellent, and the prices competitive, even compared to the local mega-mart. We got 21 lbs. of ground beef for $55 as well as steaks, short ribs, and marrow bones for the various dishes I make as an amateur chef at home. Because the meat is sold frozen, we can visit the farm from the DC area once every few months and pack our freezer to last for the duration. And the beef defrosts in the fridge to a good texture. The flavor is beefier, and having an affordable source of good-quality protein and iron helped me through training for a marathon, as well as various shorter distance races.

We looked forward to its opening after reading an article in a local paper about the added nutrition afforded by grass fed beef. I am a regular customer of Hedgeapple, and I have had numerous fascinating discussions with Dr. Barao. I spent well over $1,000.00 on beef at Hedgeapple in 2008. The quality of the beef is exceptional, including the hamburger. The prices are competitive, and the beef is better than any "organic" beef on the market. I have learned a great deal from Dr. Barao, and highly recommend Hedgeapple to anyone who is interested in nutrition. The fact that the cattle is grass fed, and loaded with Omega 3's, is especially important to me. Dr. Barao handles the meat from "conception to consumption" to ensure no adulteration.
I will not buy beef anywhere else.

I thought a great gift this year would be to prepare a beautiful grass-fed standing rib roast for Christmas dinner. I couldn't be happier that I found Hedgeapple Farm. Just an hour away from my mother's home in NW Washington, this farm furnished one of the finest roasts I have ever seen, worked with, or eaten. I am certain (based on the numerous exclamations during dinner) that the other 10 people who shared in the bounty would agree.
Not only was the product exceptional, but the attentive treatment and accomodation that I received from Scott Barao, who seems to direct the entire operation, was also superb. He made the process (which was complicated by travel plans from out of town, and a Christmas Eve pick-up) totally manageable.
Overall: Highly Recommended!

About an hour and a half drive from us we found the beautiful Hegeapple Farm and Dr Scott Bareo whose e-mails about his Angus Beef specials we eagerly anticipate. This is now the only beef we buy. We started with the 50 lb box of different cuts of meet and enjoyed every single piece of it. The last time we were there we bought a standing rib roast that will be part of our Christmas Feast, but we also have lots of the beautifully aged and vacuum packed small cuts of steak in our freezer that help us to adhere to the recommended portions of meat in a balanced diet. Please check out the web site for all of the info about this most special farm and the beef raised there. A DeClue, MD

I have only visited the farm a few times, but it could be the best beef I have ever tasted. I love sauces and marinades on my steak. After taking the recommendation to simply season with salt and pepper and put the bottle down, I could not have been happier. My wife and I have enjoyed a few of their steak cuts on the grill and there ground beef makes a great burger. I would recommend their beef to anybody and everybody. If you have not visited and tried, I would strongly recommend you make time tomorrow.

As two vegans for the last 5 years, we can tell you that coming back to beef would not have happened without Hedgeapple Farm. We read about the farm in the Urbanite Magazine and we were sold after our first visit when we witnessed first hand the commitment they have to the environment and the outstanding care they provide to their cows. The farm is so clean and beautiful and the cows look content.
The beef is sold in a beautiful old log cabin that was spotless and smelled like apple cider. We just wanted to sit down and relax all afternoon. The man working in the store was so nice and helpful. He even looked up some information for us on a cooking method we asked about for one of the cuts we bought. We moved to Baltimore from California and we were so thrilled to find tri-tip steaks again. We bought 4 of them and have already eaten 2. They were awesome.
If you have stopped eating meat because of the way it is raised, as we had, we can tell you first hand that Hedgeapple Farm will change your thinking. This is how our food should be raised and this is how customers should be treated. We will be back!

I do not know where to start. My family discovered Hedgeapple Farm while searching the internet for a local source of natural grass fed beef. We did not expect to find anything more than maybe someone selling sides of beef. we were absolutely thrilled to find Hedgeapple Farm, just one hour away from us offering beef by the cut.
We traveled to the farm last week and we were totally sold. We bought 8 different cuts of beef from ground beef, which tastes like steak, through beautiful rib eye steaks and 2 sirloin tip roasts which were on sale at an incredible price. We have eaten beef 4 out of the last 7 nights and we can not believe the difference. The taste is what I remember beef tasting like many years ago. It was tender, juicy and delicious!
The person who helped us, I think his name was Scot, was more knowledgeable about beef than anyone I have run across in 25 years. He helped us with cut selection and spent nearly 20 minutes talking to us about the farm, the beef and how to cook it. That type of customer service just does not happen anymore. This guy was passionate about their beef and you could tell he had a genuine interest in helping us enjoy the beef we purchased to the fullest.
What an amazing visit we had to Hedgeapple farm. We will tell all our friends, many who have sworn off beef for the same reasons as us, about the farm and we will be back very soon with a cooler in hand. My family thanks the folks at Hedgeapple for providing such outstanding products at reasonable prices. Keep up the great work. We need more farmers like you.

After enjoying many Hedgeapple items (chipsteak, ranch steak, tenderloin steaks, burger, BBQ beef, chili, London Broil, kabob meat, bratwurst, ribs), we made the leap to invest in a boneless rib roast for a special meal. With Scott Barao's (executive director) guidance, I was able to successfully roast this cut and it was fabulous! Everything we've had has been wonderful and we will continue to support this terrific local farm and encourage others to do the same.

After the tragic death of my husband's father years ago of a heart attack at age 56, my husband and I minimized our meat intake.
Discovery of Hedgeapple Farm and the health benefits of grass fed beef has brought back the burger at our house to thunderous applause. It's shocking to me how different this beef tastes and smells. The flavor is simply amazing.
We now eat beef more than once a week. The chopped sandwich steaks and bratwurst are much leaner and more tasty than conventional products. The beef cubes are versatile and perfect for chili, stews, and curries.
Hedgeapple's meat is reasonably priced, conveniently packaged, and stacks beautifully in the freezer. The one pound packs thaw quickly in the microwave.
To top it all off, Scott Barao's friendly, knowledgable service makes every visit a pleasure.

We love Hedgeapple Farm meats. We have been buying organic meat for about 2 years from the grocery store. We only recently discovered Hedgeapple Farm, after reading a book about the importance of supporting local farms. (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.) The ground meat just smells so fresh when you open up the package and the beef brisket is terrific.

Grandparents on both sides of my family were farmers, so I grew up with the freshest of meats and produce. As an adult, shopping in grocery stores, I could never seem to find the same quality of foods as I had been used to. What a treat to have discovered Hedgeapple's! Living in close proximity, I must have passed the store hundreds of times before venturing in one day. I'm so very glad I did. I now recommend the place to family and friends who have also been pleased with their purchases.

Coming from a farm family background, my sisters and I have always felt a strong connection to the land and have an appreciation for how we nourish our bodies. After reading books like Mad Sheep, Plenty, Animal Vegetable Miracle, and of course Fast Food Nation, we can only eat beef from a place like Hedgeapple Farms. My husband is the real meat eater, I only eat ground beef once in a while, and we made the decision about a year ago that Hedgeapple Farm would be our only source of beef. We see the cattle living a natural life - grazing and walking around - on our way to and from work - it really does matter. A lot of people think it is gross or disgusting to actually have a connection to the meat they consume, but I grew up on a farm so I understand the respect and caring that is involved in producing meat for consumption when all efforts are made to provide a natural life cycle. It's time to do things differently and thoughful purchases of food products is going to make a huge difference in our world. Oh, let me say that the quality is fantastic.

I was a next door neighbor of this farm for 5 years and I can tell you they are everything they say they are. I always witnessed humane care towards the cattle on the farm. Their farming practices also directly benefit the Monocacy River, a Maryland Scenic and Wild River. They have also placed an easement on their land to keep it as it is today for future generations to enjoy.
Since they began selling direct from the farm I have been a customer and now my family only buys their beef. Their beef is of high quality and they are very friendly and easy to work with. Nothing better than buying local AND buying high quality for a good price.
We enjoy all their cuts, the steaks are great, but lately our Baltimore Pit Beef (aka - roast beef) recipe using their roast cut has been fantastic.
You will not be disappointed - Enjoy!

With all the stories about this recall and that contamination, I've been getting more and more worried about the safety of our food supply. So I've been trying to eat local foods from people who eat what they grow and sell only locally. It's not possible to completely do that, but I feel much safer trying. So I was really glad to find a safe source for beef. And the best part is how good it is. I've had the ground beef, the flank steak (red-wine marinated), the kabob meat, and the sirloin steak. All tasty and reasonably priced for the quality. You really do get what you pay for!

I've been working on buying all of my food locally, and supporting local farmers - Hedgeapple Farm is the only place where I purchase beef. Hiqh quality beef, staff, location - you name it - it's GREAT!
Their meats are individually shrink wrapped and are sold frozen, so bring along your cooler during these hot summer months. As well as carrying every meat cut known to man, they have delicious frozen 'prepared' items that are sold by the quart. We love the beef barbeque (they also have 'Sloppy Joe's). These are a wonderful way to create a quick and easy meal when I'm short of time. They occasionally have cage-free eggs available too, just ask!
Even something as mundane as ground beef tastes terrific - I've had folks eat things that I've prepared using Hedgeapple meats (like chili, which already has strong flavors), and ask - 'What did you do to this?! It's REALLY good!' The only difference in the recipe was the Hedgeapple meat!
Come and visit and give it a try - you won't be sorry (they're competitively priced, and their value is much higher) - and support our local farms!

We like driving to the farm and getting the beef directly from where the cows are born and raised. We feel better about the beef knowing the animals are treated humanely and also knowing where they came from. The treatment of their animals is a high priority to the farm, or we would not be buying beef from them. This matters a lot to us, as you can probably tell! The beef tastes great and is a great value, too.

What a wonderful surprise when I was driving through Buckeystown last January and saw a sign for grass finished beef at Hedgeapple farm! Of course I had to stop and check it out since that is the only kind of beef we eat.......no more hormones, antibiotics or grains in the beef we eat! What a pleasent shopping experience it was. John was extremely helpful and patient with all the questions I had. The best part was when I cooked the beef....it was very good!! In fact my daughter, who was with me and lives in Raleigh, asks me to bring beef to them when we visit her and her family. They all loved it as well......so you see the beef is so good it travels to Raleigh! Check it out, I know you will love it as much as we do. Also check out the restaurants in Frederick where Hedgeapple beef is served....how wonderful to be able to eat grass finished beef in a restaurant!!

I had the pleasure of eating a Hedgeapple Farm ribeye steak at a local Frederick restaurant called Acacia about a week ago. The taste of the beef was like I remember growing up in the midwest. The flavor was wonderful, the steak was tender and juicy and it was prepared perfectly. I have since contacted the folks at the farm after learning about their farm market and I plan on taking a large cooler and visiting their farm this weekend. Beef that actually tastes like beef and is not pumped full of hormones and drugs. What a great find.

I recently discovered Hedgeapple Farm in Buckeystown, Md after reading an article in the Washington Post. I purchased several items including steaks, ground beef and hot dogs. My family grilled and ate the steaks last night and we can say without a doubt that these were the best steaks we've eaten in 10 years! The flavor and tenderness were outstanding. The prices were very reasonable for a all-natural, grass-fed and locally produced product. The customer service at the market and the knowledge of the staff was outstanding. I had a long list of questions about the selection and preparation of different cuts of beef and the folks at Hedgeapple were very patient and answered every single question I had. They also gave me several great recipe ideas and I even picked up some delicious BBQ sauce and a great t-shirt during my visit. My family and I had just about stopped eating beef after several very disappointing experiences with grocery store meat. We're looking forward to stocking our freezer with Hedgeapple beef on our next visit.
