I started off a little upset that I had to go to colorado, from Texas to order tomatillos. This review is on shipping only WOW, absolutely perfect plants come in tight fitting cardboard container around each individual plant that opens easily and inside are just beautiful plants waiting for my garden. I have green tomatoes, eggplant and tomatillos. I do believe lazy ox farm is my new go to garden center online. Thank you for taking such wonderful care in shipping. Will do another review for plants when they're in the ground. Would be nice if we could attach photos to reviews.

I 1st grew Oxhearts with seed from someone's granddad who lived in Germany. These tomatoes from your Indiana farm must be related, as they are behaving the same way. I bought a pack of 6 starters from you in Spring, and it's the only thing I am growing in my Petit raised bed garden. Like my 1st experience, these baby plants were slow to start, but once they take off, there is no stopping them. Now, they are loaded with huge, heart shaped wonders, some as big as soft balls! I had to bungee down the cages to keep them from tipping, d/t these tomatoes being so heavy! None of them are turning red yet, but in anticipation, i am lining up my recipes, to utilize them all. Soups, pizza, BLTs and more. After a scare with the dreaded, metallic Asian Beetles. . . I gave them a light spray of Neem oil, diluted, captured a few in a bucket of soapy water, and the little buggers never came back. Which leads me to believe, these plants are very healthy and of strong stock. Can't wait to taste them

After having my first fail in starting Sungold tomato seeds, and not finding any live plants near me (deep east Texas), I did an internet search for them and Lazy Ox Farm popped up. Even with good reviews, you know you are taking a chance with live plants ordered online, but I was determined. The fact that my questions to the owner were answered very quickly encouraged me, so I ordered. Within 2 days the plants arrived, and they are in excellent condition. The box was marked "Fragile - this side up", and the plants were in the nicest plant packaging I've ever seen - no chance for them to get broken or squashed. As per the instructions included in the box, I am giving them a sheltered rest for a couple of days before I put them in the ground. I will report back in a month or so, but so far I am very pleased!

I bought over 40 plants last year and got a few extras. I missed a black cherry tomato in the packaging. I found it two weeks later still in the box. It looked sad but with a tiny glimmer of life. I gradually exposed it to light and transplanted it. It took longer than the rest but produced lots of fruit. All of the plants were very healthy and very carefully packed. Key is to unpack plants as carefully as they were packed, don't worry that they look a bit stressed, put them in a sheltered location for a few days, and transition to full sun. By the next morning after you get them they look happy again.

After posting that I had received a dead tomato plant with three healthy plants, I was contacted by Lazy Ox Farm and told I would receive a replacement. They went above and beyond, by sending me two replacement plants and a purple basil plant. I feel a bit guilty now, but do highly recommend their farm now.

Three of the four opalka tomato plants arrived in very good shape; however, the fourth had been snapped off about an inch above the cardboard collar.

I ordered plants by mail, and they arrived in perfect condition and very carefully packed. I order plants by mail often, and I have never seen anyone pack so carefully! After I ordered, I discovered that the ground cherries and tomatillos would not have any fruit unless there were 2 of each. I wrote them and said, "Why don't you post this info? I had no idea." Then they were gracious enough to send me a second plant of each for no extra charge. I highly recommend Lazy Ox Farm anytime you want quality plants.

I bought just one of these plants 2 years ago and the plant came back for a second year! The yellow pepper is just a gorgeous yellow and I have made many a jar of pepper sauce with them and several other varieties I received from the Lazy Ox. Cannot recommend it highly enough. It produced peppers, A LOT OF THEM, until the coldest days hit us here in north Louisiana. The plants from Lazy Ox are the best I have ever purchased here at home or online!!! Highly recommend!!

I ordered four different types of heirloom tomatoes last year. We planted later than we had planned and my brother was worried that the heirlooms weren't going to make it. The Cherokee Purple have produced the best-tasting tomatoes in the world. We also got a good crop of the Amish Paste heirlooms as well. The Paul Robeson and Pink Berkeley Tie Die weren't as prolific, but the tomatoes we got were delicious. We are EXTREMELY PLEASED with the product, and the service, from Lazy Ox Farm, and will be ordering again.

I have ordered from Lazy Ox Farm for a couple of years now and can tell you NOBODY ships their plants in any better condition. The plants are all beautiful and the shipping is absolutely perfect to keep your plants in that condition. Wouldn't buy anywhere else....and with all this variety who needs to look further!

Purchased last season 2014. Arrived in good condition by priority mail. Farmers provided clear instructions on letting the plant "rest" from shipping. My plant grew wonderfully and bore the most delicious black cherry tomato I have ever had...I ate them straight from the vine at my gardens edge, they never made it into my house! I plan to purchase 3 this year.

Excellent oxheart! Makes the BEST sandwiches. I was able to use one tomato for 3 huge sandwiches. I used the King's Hawaiian big sandwich buns and sliced the tomato into one inch slices. I even had several slices left over to eat. Mild, almost creamy texture and flavor when you are eating it. Heaven! Probably, now, my most favorite tomato. I will always have to have at least one of these plants in my garden every year. My neighbor couldn't believe the size and had to come over and take pictures.

LOVE this tomato! So hard to not eat them all as you are picking them...mild slightly sweet flavor. They are wonderful as is, on salads, in pasta dishes, etc. So little maintenance and very high yield for me. I only ordered one plant and I had dozens of tomatoes to pick daily.

My favorite tomato for eating out of hand. Has made tomato lovers out of non-eaters. Just a little kosher salt...

Hi Ms. Jessee, You placed your order on April 8. On April 9 we sent you an e-mail letting you know that your plants were scheduled to ship on May 12 and letting you know that you could change the shipping date if you wanted to. If you check your Local Harvest account, you will see this. We did not hear from you, so we assumed that May 12 was fine with you. We base our shipping dates on the last frost date for your area. This was a much cooler spring than usual, so we were being very careful not to send plants too early. Again, we would have sent your plants whenever you wanted them had you told us when that was. Most folks order their plants far ahead of when they want them shipped. As we are not mind readers, we do the best we can with the scheduling, and always let the customers know when their shipment is scheduled and that they can change it if they want/need to. Had you gotten in touch with us prior to leaving this negative review, we could have sorted it out. We never heard from you. Thank you, Margie Lazy Ox Farm

I placed a large order with Lazy Ox Farms of seeds and plants. I just received my seeds in a padded envelope (in a timely manner) with notes of when to expect my plants to ship. Additionally the seeds were packaged neatly, with clear instructions on plating information. As an added bonus they have also included detailed notes on starting seeds (two pages worth!!) For a beginner like me I feel this could really make the difference. Thank you Lazy Ox Farm for your attention to detail and your excellent customer service.

I purchased this plant last year and was not sorry -- the leaves grew to a good 6"x4" across, and in addition to being excellent in a sandwich in place of lettuce (as Lazy Ox Farms suggests) or in making caprese wraps, I found them to work really well for making pesto and basil-based chimichurri, too. The leaves are plentiful if you feed it well and water it a little, and I plan on buying this one again this growing season.

I grew this tomato for the first time this year, 2012. It started producing for me in late June. I have canned and also made sauce from this tomato. It is a pretty, dark pink Ox-heart shaped tomato. I didn't get the 1 pounders that so many said I would get, but it has been given a heavy harvest of early ripening tomatoes. I will grow this one again.

I took a chance and ordered almost a full garden from Lazy Ox. Of course I won't know for sure until I start harvesting, but so far everything has been fantastic.

- Items were shipped on the day I requested

- As far as can tell I received all the plants that I ordered.

- Plants were very well packed.

- Plants were and healthy and ground ready.

That is everything I need from a supplier and assuming a successful harvest will continue to do business with Lazy Ox, maybe exclusively for items that I do not start from seed myself.

I'm so excited to have found these tomato plants!! San Marzano tomatoes are used by most Chefs for making sauces. I could have purchased canned San Marzano tomatoes but why not grow my own!! The plants arrived in short order and were in perfect condition. I can't wait to plant them in my garden. I have a food mill and will be making my own sauce, crushed tomatoes and marinara sauce. I will post an update once I harvest the tomatoes. I'm so glad I found Local Harvest!!!!

I recently purchased strawberry plants through another farm. They arrived in an unmarked box, no packing material, no invoice and no care instructions. The plants were small and looked as if they had been pulled from the ground and thrown into a ziplock bag. All 20 plants died.

Complete opposite experience with Lazy Ox. I was kept up-to-date on the timing of plant delivery. Plants arrived well-established, each individually wrapped, each in it's own little planter box, with care instructions.

You can really tell that this farmer takes pride in their product and cares about their customers.

I'm a Lazy Ox customer from now on!

We discovered this pepper after listening to Rachel Ray we tried them and even my grandkids liked them. They are so easy to grow and since they grow upright are not into rotting or marks on the skins wonderful flavor and so tasty. CJ

I chose to order live heirloom tomato and herb plants from Lazy Ox Farm after reading thru many other farm descriptions and prices. I kept going back to their extensive list of offerings, and I liked everything I read. I decided to complete my order with them, exclusively.

They were fabulous to deal with! They are very accessible, very hands on, the variety of plants available were vast and unique, exactly what I was looking for. Once the decision was made, I was very excited to do business with them.

The plants arrived in record time, painstakingly packed and labeled with great care, and they were flawless beauties. I followed their instructions, hardened them off properly, and they continue to do great, growing like the happy little plants they were when they arrived! : )

I will return!!! Thank you so much for adding a dash of excitement to my growing season!

My fiance was wanting some pepper plants that I couldn't find in any stores or nurseries in this area, so I went online in search of these pepper plants and found them at Lazy Ox Farm, from this website. I ordered them. It took a little longer than I had anticipated to get them... however, it is a busy season, spring time, and I'm sure they were also trying to give the little guys (the plants) oppritunity enough to be not too young before shipping them. Anyway... the plants arrived in the mail the very next day from being shipped, I was impressed. And to open the package, the pepper plants were BEAUTIFUL! He and I were not expecting such healthy, vibrant plants as what arrived! What a thrilling shock :) I will deffinently be a repeat customer of theirs and would highly recommend them to anyone in search of plants they may not be able to find locally.

We just received our order yesterday - 12 plants in total. The quality and detail into the packaging of the plants was incredible - not only did they survive the trip, they looked like they rode in first class!

Because of some family travel plans I had to work directly with the farm to coordinate the delivery. Working with Margie was a joy and she and her family delivered as promised.

All the plants were exactly as advertised and were very healthy. We already planted the 3 types of Basil we bought, and will be planting the rest of the peppers and tomatoes this weekend!

I highly recommend Lazy Ox Farm!!!!

Me and my family can't wait to sample our own "local harvest"!

This tomato made me feel like i've been cheated my whole life. Try a salad with a sweet lemon garlic vin. or make a bruschetta with nice ciabatta bread simply outstanding.
