Our farm, Lovefood, is based in the Madison, WI area where we grow nourishing, delicious, sumptuous food with love (seriously). Everything we grow is certified organic. That means we never use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and even avoid using the organically certified pesticides/fertilizers unless it's an absolute emergency (hasn't happened yet!). We grow a wide variety of produce from Arugula to Zucchini including fruits like Apples and Concord Grapes and all kinds of culinary herbs. We have even started growing ginger and turmeric in our hoop house! David is the lead farmer, mad scientist and plant conversationist while Abby (partner) is the Chief Supporting Officer. Soleia is 8 and is chiefly in charge of inspiration and running through high grass laughing hysterically. She is highly skilled in both areas. We sell our produce locally through our CSA, restaurants, grocery stores and three Farmer's Markets - the Wednesday Dane County Market (on capitol square), the Wednesday Capitol View Market on the east side and the Saturday Hilldale Farmer's Market on the west side. Our CSA is a bit unique in that we do all of our pick-ups at our farmer's markets. This allows us to give CSA members a few choices each week. For example, instead of receiving turnips in your box, you can pick a root vegetable: beets, turnips, radishes or carrots. This lets our members have more control over what makes it home to the refrigerator each week and members also get the chance to chat with us as well as other members. We are honored to be a part of The Farley Center Farm Incubator in Verona, WI where we coexist with other new farmers in a beautiful valley filled with forest, wildlife and of course, our fields. Every fall, the farmers get together for The Farley Center Cider Fest where we thank the incubator, pick some apples and press cider. It's a great time to visit the farm, do a tour and see where your produce comes from. In exciting news for 2018, we are in the process of purchasing land in Stoughton, WI. The land is 30 acres which feels enormous after we have been farming on 1.5 acres or less since we began in 2014. Our plans are to let most of the land rest in cover crops for now and start with a couple of acres in vegetables and a new greenhouse this spring. Check us out on Facebook for updates as they happen! We are always happy to talk farming so please feel free to reach out by email or phone if you have any questions or curiosities.
