Runamuk Acres Conservation Farm is located in New Portland, amid the western mountains of Maine. Forty-one of its 53 acres are under a 50-year USDA/NRCS conservation easement protecting a brook trout stream, wetlands, and rare wildlife habitat. We grow vegetables, offer a small CSA program for locals (details available at: runamukacres.com/farm-shares), and keep an honor-system farmstand open Friday through Sunday in season. The conservation acreage boasts two miles of trails open to the public for birdwatching, hiking, snowshoeing, picnicking and general nature bathing. Farmer Sam writes about the farm and the unglamorous truth of working land, for women who want real self-reliance, at runamukacres.substack.com.
