Winter has been very mild, and Spring is soon approaching! Our store is near completion and we are very excited to move into it! We have had a very successful 2011 and are looking forward to an even better 2012. The first batch of meat chicken peeps will be arriving on March 22nd, we will pick them up at Eagle Nest Poultry in Oceola, Ohio, just a mere miles from our farm. No shipping involved as to be kinder to the peeps. They will start out being housed in a warm and safe brooder pen built by my husband around 8 years ago from a reclaimed shipping crate. This brooder pen ensures a warm and secure place for the peeps to get a helathy start before going out on pasture when warmer weather arrives. Out on pasture they will be eating grass as we move thier portable pens daily. They are also fed a grain ration so they aren't hungry. The outside pens are great for the meat chickens, they are so much healthier. Plus, we don't have to pitch thier manure! Haha The cattle are ready for some new grass growth out on the pastures, they love it! In the winter they eat some grain and hay. Our pigs are growing nicely also, they have enjoyed the mild winter like the rest of us. Our Farmers Market Schedule is changing a bit this year, we will still be at the Northside Market on Tuesdays from 4-6, but we are currently debating a Saturday market. Fridays will find us at the Carrousel Farmers Market in Mansfield, Ohio from 10-2. That is also a nice market.
