The Franklin Farmers' Market has an especially lovely village setting in front of the white-columned portico of Franklin's magnificent Chapel Hall. Settled in 1792, Franklin's Main Street was once the Catskill Turnpike, one of the major routes west in the early 19th century. Virtually the entire village is inscribed in the National Register of Historic Places. Eighteen local producers offer amazing variety - meat, goat and cow cheeses, eggs, farm-raised tilapia, vegetables, fruit, breads and baked goods, plants and flowers, maple syrup and honey, jams and pickles, woollen goods from farm raised sheep and alpaca, farm grown herbal soaps and lotions, hand-forged tools and handcrafted cutting boards- all artfully displayed under white canopies every Sunday 10 AM-2 PM from Memorial Day to Columbus Day weekend. Franklin Farmers' Market is a project of Franklin Local, a not-for-profit group founded a few years ago to encourage the growth of local economies and regional sustainability. We also publish a free quarterly local paper, the New Franklin Register, featuring articles about local sustainable initiatives.
