Simple Dream Farm

Simple Dream Farm came into being because it was our simple dream to live a self-reliant lifestyle. Growing, raising and hunting our own food in a sustainable manner was our primary goal. Then we became involved in the local food movement and believe strongly in supporting local farmers as well as other local businesses. We sell our products from the farm and also at the Ritchie County Farmers' Market. We raise angus and angus-cross beef cattle in an intensive rotation grazing system. It provides fork tender beef while improving our soil with every grazing cycle. Our cattle never receive grain. By following this strict regimen, there is no need for hormones, steroids or regular antibiotics. We also sell pastured chicken eggs. Our free-range, dual purpose chickens provide us with meat and also generate surplus eggs which we sell. The rich orange yolks are a testament to allowing chickens to do what they're supposed to do - eat anything they can catch! No tiny cages for our chickens here at the farm. Excess garden produce is another product that we offer. Depending on the success of our growing season, we have a wide variety of produce that is grown right here. With the help of manure recycling, cover cropping, and quite a bit of TLC, we are able to share what we eat with others. Finally, we are currently establishing berry plantings, orchard trees, and working toward steady production of shiitake mushrooms. While these crops take some time to establish quality production, our hope is that in a few years, we'll have consistent crops for ourselves as well as enough abundance to offer to others.
