Toad Hill Farm, owned by Tim and Jane Patrick, has been in business for over 18 years here in Knox Co. and for that entire period, all of its products have been raised by methods that comply with the national organic standards. Many central Ohio chefs seek their specialties such as lettuce mix, fingerling potatoes, Asian greens and cherry tomato blend. A number of top ten Columbus restaurants including Alana's, Dragonfly Neo V and Basi Italia are long term customers of Toad Hill Farm. "We grow things you can't find in other places," Patrick said.
The Patricks says that the highest quality is their goal with all that they raise. Three factors are most important to their products, freshness, nutrition and tastes. All of Toad Hill's vegetables are picked at the height of freshness, then delivered as quickly as possible to ensure quality. Carefully selecting varieties that have superior nutrition and taste are very important when deciding what types of vegetables to grow.
As many of their regular customers already know, Toad Hill farm has had over 4 successful years of extending the growing season of our greens and other vegetables in their two 30 by 96 foot greenhouses. These protected areas have given the Patricks the stability to insure a steady income early and late in the year, as well as getting a jump-start on certain summer crops that can be a little temperamental to grow.
This year they are planning to erect two large greenhouses to give a better rotation to their crops under cover and expand the varieties that they currently grow. This would allow them to extend the tomato season into early Fall, and trial a number of other crops that might work under a low input sustainable agriculture system such as theirs.
