The Urban Teaching Farm initiative was launched in November of 2018, with grant funding on 3 acres of land at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in the historic Warnersville neighborhood, just south of downtown Greensboro. Our goal is to improve access to fresh foods, offer service learning opportunities, and teach the skills of regenerative agriculture to the next generation in our community all while creating a financially sustainable program.

Our community is a neighborhood with a rich history. Founded in 1865 as the first planned African American community in the area, it is still home to some of these families generations later. Though severely and irrevocably transformed by the federal urban renewal program in the 1960s, the neighborhood takes great pride in being the first registered Heritage Community in Greensboro (2015) and is filled with a loving, supportive community.

To support our farm's mission, we offer memberships to our CSA-style Harvest Box program. In the 2019 season we are offering 30 weekly shares April-October for a suggested donation of $500. We also have a limited number of Pay What You Can Harvest Box shares available.

As a Harvest Box member you will receive:

-A customizable, weekly box of 6-8 different kinds of local and chemical-free vegetables and herbs from April 15th-November 4th, 2020 with a 3 week break in August.
-Access to value added products from local area producers as weekly add-on options.
-An Out of the Garden Project reusable tote for weekly pick-ups
-Invitations to monthly community dinners at the farm
-An invite to our end of season Fall Harvest Day Celebration in November

We also wholesale our produce to local co-op, Deep Roots and area chefs and supper clubs.

We grow in a way which honors the history of this land. This means we do not spray chemicals harmul to people, plants, or the creatures that inhabit the farm. Periodically we will spray a compost tea, fish emulsion, or in some cases organic products that include neem oil, Bt. We are mindful of how often we disturb the natural webs of life in our soil and also of the fact that our farm was lawn in the fall of 2018- some initial tillage has been necessary. We rotate crops and embrace cover cr
