After several years of farming in Nebraska, we moved home and have bought a small farm in beautiful Mecosta County, Michigan. Our new farm was conventionally farmed years ago and is now mostly grass.
We will be raising produce utilizing natural methods and never, never any chemicals. We will utilize a high tunnel and in-ground 30 inch wide beds fertilized with composted manure. The first year we will plant a half to one entire acre.
We are now raising raising what will be a sustainable flock of heritage breed chickens and ducks. Turkeys may be possible in the future. We will breed and hatch our own egg layers. Excess cockerels will be raised as "traditional" meat chickens, with many of our breeds on the Ark of Taste by design. All of our poultry are fed Amish made non-GMO feeds.
We are working to develop relationships with area chefs, but plan on generating most of our revenue this year by selling at local farmers' markets. Our plans are to open a CSA beginning in 2019.
