Workman Farms is a family owned business since 1964. Ted and Edna Workman started Workman Farms after Ted helped a man grow the famous Hearts Oâ?? Gold cantaloupe. He took all the knowledge the man told him and started growing the Hearts Oâ?? Gold himself. After a year or so he added corn, tomatoes, summer squash and watermelon. Edna ran the little produce stand they had out in front of their house on Soda Lake Road while Ted and the hired helped managed the fields of tasty veggies. Tedâ??s Uncle Rex joined him in the early 1970â??s. Rex went around to grocery stores like Raleyâ??s, Albersons and Scolaries and sold them the veggies Ted grew. Around 1975 they bought property at the corner of the Reno Hwy and Soda Lake Road and moved the produce stand there. Then they expanded what they grew again, adding green beans, beets, onions, cucumbers, potatoes and garlic. Their children; Vickie, Eddie, Wade and Neal all worked on the farm and helped out in the produce stand. Once Vickie turned 18 she became a partner with her parents. Then her brother Wade came in to handle the farm along with his father. In the early 1980â??s Vickie added fabric, beads, and other craft supplies to their produce stand. With the craft section doing so well, they decided to build another building to house the veggies. So in the early 1990â??s they built the nursery. They added nursery products to their expanding business.
