Concrete Beet Farmers CSA

Started by six young entrepreneurs from the Twin Cities in the Spring of 2011, Concrete Beet Farmers is an up and coming urban farm in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis. By transforming previously vacant land into a productive, edible landscape, our small farm enterprise will provide affordable, fresh produce to residents of the immediate surrounding community. It will also serve as an educational tool and community gathering place in urban areas where many people don't have a close, tangible connection to the food they eat. In its initial year of operation, Concrete Beet Farmers will operate primarily through the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model, offering a total of 10 shares of produce at two different levels of membership (Basic and Deluxe). Other produce not distributed through our CSA boxes will be sold as available through a buyers club composed of nearby residents, or directly to small cafes and restaurants in the area. Using growing techniques that maximize efficiency of space through vertical gardening and succession planting, Concrete Beet Farmers is yet another example of how urban farming is a practical method for feeding the residents of Minneapolis. Our farm is designed with the basic goals of ecological, social, and financial sustainability in the specialized environment of urban agriculture. We will strive to farm in a way that cares for and builds the quality of the soil and air around the farm, without the use of chemical inputs.
