Hillside School Farm and Garden

Hillside School is an independent all boys school for grades 5-9. In 1901 two sisters, Charlotte Drinkwater and Mary Drinkwater Warren, established a self-sustaining school for poor and homeless boys on their farm in Greenwich, Massachusetts. In 1927, with the flooding of the Swift River Valley to create the Quabbin Reservoir imminent, Hillside School moved to its present location in Marlborough. Until the 1980's, the farm was central to the school's existence. The boys grew crops and raised cattle, pigs and chickens, providing food for the entire community. This year we decided to share the bounty of produce that is grown in the Hillside School Garden with the local community in the form of a CSA. Memberships are limited, but the produce is of superior quality! We are also including eggs, flowers and herbs for our members. Today the farm is run as a hobby farm and used as an educational tool for the students. The boys have the opportunity to help with daily chores for the animals, seeding in the green house and garden in the spring, and harvesting when they return in the fall. We do not use pesticides or herbicides at the farm to ensure that we are providing the most beneficial produce for our students and patrons. Please, feel free to visit the Hillside School Farm.
