The North Tulsa Farmers Market is a market that primarily services low income consumers. We are the only market in the state that is located directly on a farm. Our goal is to offer the freshes possible produce to our surrounding community. In the area of North Tulsa we have a higher rate of mortality ( 14 year gap) than any other parts of Tulsa directly related to dietary choices. We are located in a food desert that doesn't look like change is coming any time soon. Our city is facing serious budget cuts as well as lay offs. Our market puts on training around growing, cooking and acessing of fresh produce. On the farm where the market is located we have demonstration plots that show best growing practices being utilized. We pass out material from extension service, American Diabetes, American Heart Association and other relevant materials geared toward food and health. The customers can also choose to have a plot where the market is located, as well as having a vendor space after having grown the foods. No other market offers so much to customers where the bottom line isn't just money it is the social justice and health of our communities at stake.
