The hot, DRY weather has taught us clearly that improving our soil's ability to hold moisture and nutrients is now our highest priority. All of our plantings (plus perennials, trees) are scrambling to form seed or otherwise brace for survival of the dormant season. The "wildlife" is also stressed, going into the next season with far less food and habitat than when summer began. Mitigating the ongoing extremes of the climate is our job!
Our Edible Goose Creek collaborative is glad to be "coming down the home stretch" with only two more CSA distributions in October. We are proud that we have been able to offer a bounty of eggs, pastured poultry/pork, seasonal veggies, and value-added items to our loyal members. Given both climatic shifts and changes in our personal circumstances, we will likely be meditating this winter on our next steps...
Need a quiet spot to relax, recover, rejuvenate? Please inquire about a stay at our lovely cottage in Goose Creek Valley. We're close to great hiking, mountain biking, and the amenities of the greater Roanoke area as well as the Town of Bedford.
Join our natural foods buying club and receive great food at good prices (Frankferd Farms Foods in Saxonburg PA is the distributor; see www.frankferd.com). If you would like to collaborate on our orders, please get in touch. We look forward to sharing with you!
