We have an organic farm at Sylvester Manor, which is located on the East End of Long Island on a small island called Shelter Island. The 240 acre property has embarked on a new era as a nonprofit organic farm, historic plantation and vibrant arts and education center, with programs open to all.
The Windmill Field is worked by a dedicated crew of young farmers, including seasonal apprentices and WWOOFers. The farm grows fruits and vegetables that are sold to members of a 21-week CSA and also in our onsite Farmstand. We raise pigs and sell our pork and also maintain a robust group of chickens for eggs.
Throughout our long history, each era had their own unique culture of food- who grew it, how it was processed, how it was sold, the skills, songs, dances, and stories that accompanied food at all stages- each era was a unique answer to the question: how do we feed ourselves well?
Today, our mission is to preserve, cultivate and share the history of Sylvester Manor to ensure that food and art remain connected to the community and the land.
We hope you'll join us!
