Owen River Farm is a small, one-man vegetable producing operation. Harvests are sold primarily through a CSA, the Lake Ella Growers' Market, and the Red Hills Online Market in Tallahassee, FL. Some produce is sold to local restaurants.
All of Owen River Farm's vegetables and herbs are grown without the use of any synthetics. Fertility comes from cover crops, composted stable waste from a horse farm up the street, composted kudzu/crop residue and a small amount of supplemental blood and bone meal, rock powders and foliar fish and seaweed sprays. Compost teas are brewed and applied to promote soil microbiology and flowers and companion planting used to bring beneficials into the field.
Owen River Farm is known for it's beautiful head lettuces, gourmet salad mix and many heirloom, unique and beautiful cultivars. Stop by the market in the appropriate season to see colorful displays of the more unique varieties: red and golden turnips, freckles lettuces, golden cucumbers, red okra, purple carrots, green eggplant, purple sweet potatoes, white netted pie pumpkins, edible flowers, purple streaked wax beans and more!
