We post updates of what we have available weekly on Instagram or will send folks the list directly upon request via email or text.
We only use organic approved sprays and fertilizers on our farm. And we try to limit even the organic spraying as much as possible to protect beneficial insects.
POULTRY
We have around 100 chickens who forage for food on the pastured side of the property. Additionally, they receive certified organic pelleted feed.
We aim to provide excellent welfare to our birds. Though it is not as economical from a business standpoint, we keep them for many years past when they would typically be culled. As losing birds to predators is a massive problem for folks with free-range and pastured poultry in this area, we manually close their coops every night, regularly count them and have trained a watch dog to scare off aerial predators.
HONEY
We produce a small volume of honey in our back yard. However, we usually have honey available for sale by local beekeepers who use organic practices, do not migrate their hives, and whose honey was collected close in to the cities of Bend, Tumalo, or Redmond.
The Broken Plow Microfarm is a small self-serve farm stand on Eagle Road. We focus on pasture-raised certified organic-fed eggs, goat milk, seasonal produce, local honey, and bread.
We also do some chicken, firewood, and flowers. Our produce is grown using organic practices, and we use organic inputs on the rest of the farm whenever reasonable. The farm isn't a touristy destination. Instead, we do what we can to make local food something families can realistically work into everyday life.
