Founded in 2010, Neighborhood Foods Farm is the urban farming branch of Urban Tree Connection, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization transforming blighted urban spaces into neighborhood assets through the cultivation of community and sustainably grown produce. The main farm site is nestled at the heart of the 5300 block of Wyalusing Ave in Haddinton, formerly known as the Polselli lot, and is held in Conservatorship by Urban Tree Connection under the Pennsylvania Abandoned and Blighted Property Conservatorship Act of 2009. Neighborhood Foods Farm is the first farm in The City to obtain land rights by petitioning the courts in this manner, paving the way for other urban farms and organizations to gain control of property in The City through alternative means. In addition to pioneering alternative forms of land access in The City, Neighborhood Foods Farm is recognized as an innovator of urban agriculture. Through site specific growing strategies based on soil tests, water tests, and other site specific conditions, Neighborhood Foods has built six successful production sites on 3.5 acres, most of which are located in the Haddington Neighborhood of West Philadelphia. We do not spray any harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers using natural and sustainable growing and good agricultural practices as our guide. The farm is open to visitors and volunteers Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am-1pm. An on-farm market stand is open on Saturdays from 10am-2pm that runs Mother's Day Weekend through Thanksgiving. Farm tours are available upon request.
