This is the first year of our business expansion with the farm. In the next 3 years we will be able to see our dreams and goals come together at Pepper Berry Urban Farm. Gardening, cooking, flowers and teaching kids, teens & adults have been my husband and my passion for over 30 years. At this location we will be able to grow organic produce year round and teach adults and children how to grow veggies, fruit and flowers. We will have classes on container gardens, small space gardens, traditional gardening, cylinder gardening, etc. We will also be teaching classes on what to do after the produce comes on: canning classes, freezing, dehydrating and selling your produce at Farmers Markets, stores and restaurants.
We started our produce in the ground March 15th of this year and plan on have produce in the ground all winter using a high tunnel. We are in the process of replanting in our beds with cold crops at this time. We are trying to grow heirloom and varieties you do not see as often at the grocery stores as well as the standard produce. We have 12 different types of potatoes, 15 different tomatoes, 5 types of eggplants, 15 types of peppers, 3 types of beets, 6 types of carrots and many more veggies. We have huckleberry, elderberry, grapes, strawberries, muskmelon, watermelon and ground cherries. Next year we will be expanding our garden to include mushrooms and several more fruits.
We have a lot going on at our micro farm here in the heart of Kansas City. Pepper Berries Urban Farm is a place where we are helping to change lives one person, one family, one community at a time with growing, teaching and selling our produce. If you would like to donate to our campaign contact us and we will give you the link to help us take our next step.
