My farm is nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of southeast Kentucky. I live on a forested mountain with a pond, hiking opportunities, and fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. I have approximately 1/2 acre where I grow a wide variety of organic vegetables including onions, beets, sweet potatoes, potatoes, arugula, dill, cilantro, basil, parsley, carrots, beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, peas, turnips, radishes, winter squash, pumpkins, lettuce, spinach, bok choy, mustard, kale, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, swiss chard, celery, garlic, okra, zucchini, yellow summer squash, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe and kohlrabi . I also maintain an herb garden and take advantage of any wild edible plants or fruit growing on the mountain. I am totally committed to running my farm using organic, sustainable methods as well as incorporating biodynamic and permaculture methods. I sell produce at the Market Square Farmers Market in Knoxville, Tennessee. I also run a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) consisting of local members in the Williamsburg, KY area. I offer season-long internships or short-term work exchanges. There will be ample hands-on opportunities to learn how to start seedlings in the green house, prepare ground for planting, planting, transplanting, irrigation, crop rotation, cover-cropping, raised beds, composting, weeding, mulching, harvesting, seed-saving, mowing, weed eating, tilling, using low tunnels and floating row cover, and sales and marketing. There will also be opportunities to learn how to freeze, can, pickle, and dry the produce of the season as well as learn how to cook healthy, well-balanced meals. A visit to my farm would offer opportunities to experience how to be as self-sufficient as possible, and how to grow for a living amidst beautiful scenery, and night skies that will make you leave a little part of your heart here in the mountains of southeast Kentucky.
