Located in Citrus County, Florida, The Path's farm project, "Harvest Hope," consists of farming 15 acres to grow seasonal vegetables nearly year-round using environment-friendly resources like worm castings, river muck and other nutrient-rich resources to grow nutrition-packed vegetables.
Public demand led to forming The Path Farm Co-op in 2010 so that anyone in the community could obtain locally-grown, pesticides-free vegetables. The co-op offers the opportunity to enjoy a variety of vegetables grown without pesticides or preservatives sprayed on the food. Many vegetables are harvested within 24 hours of the member's pick up, generally weekly throughout the growing seasons, approx. 6 mos each. Supporting The Path's Farm Co-op maintains our supervised work program for the homeless at The Path's shelter.
Memberships provide the funds needed to plant, grow and harvest the vegetables. In return, members receive fresh-picked vegetables, generally weekly, throughout a season (fall/winter or spring/summer). The Path has also offers farm tours to the public. "Harvest Hope" helps men and women utilize their stay at The Path's shelter more productively by providing work and skills training, healthy food to combat malnutrition, physical exercise to promote recovery from poverty and addiction. They participate in all farming activities, then learn how to prepare meals with the vegetables they helped to grow.
The community benefits with nearly year-round availability of fresh food as well as volunteer opportunities to participate in farming activities. Farming methods can be adapted to small farm or community garden, almost anywhere in the world. The Path is a local 501-c-3. CALL US FOR A TOUR! 352.527.6500 X8
