In the 1960s Dr. J. Robert Smyth at the University of Massachusetts, created the Midget White turkey breed to meet an anticipated demand for a small turkeyâ??capable of fitting into the smaller refrigerators of an increasing number of urban dwellers and single households. Yet the market for a smaller bird did not develop as predicted and a lack of demand almost pulled this breed out of production. The survival of this breed now lies completely in the hands of private individuals. Both The meat and the eggs of the Midget White are outstanding in quality
Alma Farm produces mixed vegetables and raises meat in beautiful rural Porter Maine. The vegetables can be purchased through our CSA, our farmstand or wholesale accounts. We are small family farm located in Mansfield PA. We raise our animals, vegetables and fiber as naturally as possible. All of our animals are grass fed, and we raise all of our own meats; we also raise many heritage breeds. Some of the many animals we have are Midget White Turkeys, Deleware Chickens, Nubian + Boer goats, Shetland + Coopworth sheep, llamas and ducks. Our farm products include Goat Milk Soap and Cream, Fleeces and wool yarns, and breeding and show stock.

We are dedicated to farming animals and plants by non-industrial, grass based standards. All of our animals are free to be what they are. We currently have heritage breed chicken eggs. Our plans for 2009 include, heritage turkeys for the holidays, meat chicken through the summer months, eggs all year. We have a year round horseback riding school. Future plans include pastured beef, swine, sheep and goat.

Instead I implement high standards of care to keep my flocks healthy, and allow them to grow at the rate nature intended. I specialize in heritage and rare breeds; you will never find a commercial hybrid in my flock! They are fed a high quality blend of grains, and provided with unlimited access outdoors to forage.
