The Ox Share (previously called the full share) is sized for a family of four, or two adult vegetarians, and also will often offer the first harvest of most items as well as some select premium items. The Calf Share (previously called the half share) is more suited to a smaller family or those that don't cook at home most nights. While it varies throughout the season, the Ox share provides approximately 2 standard plastic grocery bags full of produce each week, while the Calf share provides one. How does it work at Oxen Hill Farm? During the growing season, shareholders come to the farm to pick up their vegetables once a week on a selected day. You will get a mix of whatever is being harvested that particular week. The produce will change as the harvest season changes. Early summer pickups begin with lots of greens, radishes, kale, lettuce, collards and if the weather cooperates, strawberries. The share builds as the season progresses. Towards later in June, summer squashes, salad turnips, beans, broccoli, and cucumbers will populate your share and later in the season tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and more. This natural progression of share contents allows you to enjoy the best of the season that is available here in North Central Connecticut.

Each week there will be several items "automatically" included in your share, which you will select from a Farmers' Market style display. For the peak of the season this is usually 8 different products for either size share. Additionally, you will have a choice of several additional items (often 4 for Ox size, 2 for Calf size) so that you may customize your share to your tastes.

All customers are welcome to pick their own herbs, cherry & grape tomatoes and a few other items at the farm during any pick-up time.

Members of Oxen Hill Farm Family are always available to answer questions about how to store and cook each kind of vegetable and we provide weekly recipe sheets with farm news about upcoming events, including kids activities and cooking demonstrations, as well as future harvests.
