Sprout City Farms is an urban agriculture nonprofit in Denver, CO with the mission of cultivating educational urban farms that engage and strengthen communities. SCF envisions a thriving local food system supported by a network of city farms that nourish, and are nourished by, their surrounding community. In partnership with Denver Public Schools, SCF manages the Denver Green School Community Farm, a one-acre organic vegetable farm established in the spring of 2011 on the grounds of the Denver Green School (a public ECE-8th grade elementary and middle school in southeast Denver focused on teaching the concepts of sustainability). The farm provides fresh produce to the school cafeteria through a first-of-its-kind Farm to Cafeteria program, as well as to the community through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share program, weekly farm stand, and produce donations to the school backpack program and local food pantries. SCF also hosts numerous community events and volunteer days throughout the year in addition to offering educational programs to the school and community.
In Spring of 2014, SCF began building the Mountair Park Community Farm in partnership with the City of Lakewood on an acre of Mountair Park at 13th & Depew St (near Colfax & Sheridan). In 2015 the Lakewood farm expanded to a total of 1.5 acres. This farm continues to work with the Two Creeks Neighborhood to develop food production, distribution, and education programs as the community sees fit. In 2016, we started work on a third 1-acre farm site in partnership with the Mental Health Center of Denver at the Dahlia Campus for Health and Well-Being.
Please come visit either of our community farms any time--especially on a Friday morning from 10-12 or the first Saturday of the month from 10-12, May through October, when we host regular open volunteer days!
