This is our 12th year developing our farm and we very much are still in a process of working to form it to our needs while respecting the land and all that it has to offer. We have added over 30 fruit trees to our original orchard of 14 trees along with over 70 ornamental trees and 60+ shrubs. We have strived to plant ornamental trees, shrubs and perennials that will be attractive to wildlife as nurturing nature and the environment is as important to us as nurturing our customers with the wholesome foods we grow. Chemicals are never used on food growing soil and only used on other areas if no organic option is viable.
Our current program focuses on the no-till farming pattern allowing spent roots to naturally decay in the soil enriching it and naturally aerating. Additionally, we have added honeybees which we have found fascinating to watch and sweet with Bee Haven Honey which is occasionally collected in the Fall. We hope to increase our hives to four or more so that we will be able to sell some of our surplus in future years as value added products.
In the midst of major housing developments (they throw out seed and the houses grow!), our little farm is pie shaped and surrounded by native trees and vegitation, much like an oasis in a desert of housing, we consider our farm a little "Slice of Heaven".
