Viva Farms is a non-profit Farm Business Incubator and Training Program established in 2009. We operate over 100 acres between our two locations in Western Washington. We lower the barriers for beginning farmers and create the opportunity for success. We empower aspiring and limited-resource farmers by providing bilingual training in holistic organic farming practices, as well as access to land, infrastructure, equipment, marketing and capital.

Our CSA is a subscription to weekly boxes of farm-fresh, organic produce, grown by the incubator farmers in our program. Viva Farms exclusively sells certified organic produce. By signing up, you are directly contributing to beginning farmers? success in building viable farm businesses. Each farm is an independent business incubating at one of our locations; together, these farms grow primarily mixed vegetables and berries. To get to know the 30+ farms currently operating at Viva Farms, please visit vivafarms.org/farmers.

Early season availability includes: lettuces and leafy greens, radishes, strawberries, garlic scapes, snap peas and culinary herbs. In the summer months, we offer raspberries, blackberries, summer squash, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, fennel, basil, cilantro, and other summer herbs. In the fall/winter, we have beets, carrots, parsnips, celeriac, numerous winter squash varieties, alliums, fall brassicas, radicchio, and more! We also offer add-ons, like rotating weekly varieties of bread.

We were founded in response to a national generation crisis in farming: farmers with an average age of 58 are retiring, and the number of farms, produce processing facilities, and acreage of farmland are all decreasing. The disappearance of these four vital components from our local and regional food economy is alarming, and we need to act now before we pass the point of no return in local communities, as a region and as a nation. In the next 20 years, 70% of all Washington State farmers are expected to retire, with their farmland changing hands.

Producers must overcome significant barriers to become successful farm owners and operators. Washington State University research shows that small-scale and socially disadvantaged producers are typically underserved by standard research and extension models. It is Viva Farms' mission to support these new farmers, in order to preserve our farmland and the viability of family farming in our region and beyond.
