Sunshine Silo is an ecologically conscious fruit and vegetable farm located on a 21 acre family owned homestead in the rural Michigan town of Leonidas. A sustainable relationship with the land and the health of our community has been our motivation in choosing to start the farm, and we strongly believe the you cannot have one without the other. Currently we grow about 3 acres of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, following certified organic guidelines, even though we are not certified organic. Our offering are not limited to what we harvest from out garden and also include wildcrafted vegetables, such as ramps and cattail shoots, mushrooms (mmmmm..morels), and herbs as they come into season throughout the year, as well as, soaps, salve, smudge sticks, and other seasonal specialty products. In order to maintain the natural fertility of our soils, livestock and poultry will be incorporated into our farm ecosystem in the coming years. We also look forward implementing more perennial systems on the farm to increase diversity and decrease energy inputs. After all diversity on our farms means healthier land, healthier people, and an over all healthier planet!
