Out standing in the field!
Harford Farm is a small family farm, certified organic by NOFA-NY Certified Organic LLC. We sell through a CSA and at the well-established Cooperative Farmers Market of Scranton. We grow a wide selection of vegetables, herbs, cut flowers and fruit.
For 2015 we're again using a no-contract, simplified CSA system. Join our CSA by purchasing a share for $100 and you receive $110 worth of product, that you can select!
Our specialties include greens, greens and more greens--salad/field mix, an asian spicy mix, kales that are red, green, curly and wavy--all high in vitamins. Summer squash in many colors, sizes and shapes. Tomatoes that are not only red, but yellow, striped, and orange; grape, plum and slicer shapes, and that have flavor! We also grow truckfulls of cut sunflowers, glads, cosmos, lisianthus, rudbeckia and zinnia bouquets until frost. Geof's hand-thrown pottery works well with all the flowers, and a selection of pots are also displayed at the Scranton Market.
Being certified organic means we take care to protect the bees that pollinate our crops--you do know that starting out with those common day-glow treated seed harms our pollinators? So never treated seeds. We encourage birds to feast on the bad bugs rather than spraying chemicals. We plants cover crops that smother weeds--again instead of spraying harmful chemicals on our food.
We welcome your suggestions, brochure requests, and offers to weed. The Scranton Market opens for 2015 in mid-July. See you soon.
