At Pont Reading we follow regenerative, organic, and indigenous principles to build soil health, foster biodiversity, and grow delicious, nutrient-dense vegetables, fruits, nuts, and eggs, and resilient native plants, flowers, and trees. The farm's conservation practices provide nature-based solutions to the climate crisis, and we have been recognized as a Certified Pollinator Habitat by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, and a Certified Native Plant Habitat by the NC Native Plant Society. The farm also participates in a major USDA-supported partnership of Southern farms implementing climate-resilient conservation practices.
Our farm's chief custodian, Dr. Joshua Humphreys, is also president and senior fellow at Croatan Institute, where he directs the Soil Wealth program and leads collaborative initiatives to help small, underserved farmers and land stewards get access to land, capital, and resources to build resilience. He serves on the Advisory Board of Rodale Institute's Southeast Organic Center and the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture, where he also chairs the Finance and Investment Committee. He is a member of the American Horticultural Society, the Association for Temperate Agroforestry, and the NC Native Plant Society.
