Salamander Springs Farm, near Berea, KY, has for 10 years been designed, created and managed according to permaculture principles. A wide range of market crops are produced without tillage, pesticides or fertilizers. Grain and dry bean fields are broadcast seeded into cover crops. Corn is grown in the traditional "3-Sisters" system with pole beans and pumpkins & squash. A wide variety of vegetable crops, herbs & flowers are intensively grown in mulched beds. Tree nuts and fruits, forest medicinals, ramps and mushrooms are harvested throughout the season. Black turtle beans, pinto beans, popcorn and wholegrain cornmeal (available here on the LocalHarvest online store) are dried, shelled and processed on the farm.

Salamander Springs Farm products are sold at Happy Meadow Natural Foods and Berea College Bookstore's local foods section. Winter produce delivery includes salad & stir-fry mixes, arugula, spinach, kale, turnip, carrots, cabbage, radishes, daikon, cornmeal, popcorn, pinto & black turtle beans, dried herbs/teas, salves, onions, garlic, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, squash.
