We are a small vegetable farm located minutes from downtown Sacramento. We practice farming with agroecological techniques in order to produce safe and nutritional food to nourish the individual, community, and ecosystem. Join our CSA Program July-November Full Season $450 Monthly $115 One Time $38.50

H&K Farms is back in the field and we are working harder every day to grow food for the greater Sacramento community and East Bay. We grow a variety of specialty vegetables, heirloom tomatoes, and melons. We grow food practicing agroecological techniques that build fertility and resilience within both the soil and the community.

We have been busy in the fields preparing to plant the 2019 vegetable crop. This will be our first time cultivating a crop on our new fields since our move from the old farm where we have been for the past 5 years. The rich Sacramento River soil has been wonderful and shows much promise. We strive to steward the land and take care of the soil which we use to grow the fresh foods you enjoy.

We also own and operate two Community Farmers Markets. Saturdays in Rancho Murieta CA and Sundays in Rio Linda CA. We offer a market for several other small and local farmers and dairymen. As well as bakers, artists, and crafters. There is something for everyone at our quaint community markets.

Science is critical to our management at H&K Farms. Our founder Maceo Hart-Kapic works with the Global Food Initiative at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Farmer Maceo conducts research on the interactions of compost in no-till and tillage vegetable agriculture in conjunction with the Bowles Lab at UC Berkeley. Using greenhouses at the Oxford Tract Research facility, farmer Maceo is conducting research on the flavor profile of Tomato grown with different types of compost and biological soil amendments.

The farm would not be possible without the dedication of farmer Sherrie, not only is she the 55 years young mother of farmer Maceo, she also completes many of the tractor and field operations on the farm. Farmer Sherrie also manages the farmers market locations with other team members. Often working 7 days a week, she truly holds down the farm. Many thanks are in order to the worlds best mom and farming partner!

We sell most of our food through our seasonal Community Supported Agriculture program, where you can purchase a share of the farms produce on a seasonal basis. The program asks customers to pay for the full season upfront which helps offset the spring costs of planting the crops. However, H&K Farms believes that no one should go hungry, we allow a pay as you go program for some community members. Additionally, we have been an avid donor to area schools, the River City Food Bank, and the Rio Linda Food Closet.
