Route 1 Farms

Route 1 Farms is a longtime fixture in the evolving land movement towards small scale and ecologically based agriculture on the Central Coast of California. The farm has grown high quality, CCOF certified organic produce, fruit, flowers and herbs for over twenty five years. You can find Route 1 at farmer's markets, through our CSA, local restaurants and the many fine natural food and grocery stores in Santa Cruz and a few further away. Jeff Larkey and his crew are stewards of 50 acres of beautiful Santa Cruz coastal valley farmland, at Rancho del Oso along Waddell Creek on the North Coast, and on Ocean St. Extension, at the rural/urban fringe along the San Lorenzo River minutes outside of downtown Santa Cruz. From humble beginnings, Route 1 has grown to meet the demands of the Santa Cruz community without sacrificing the ideals of beauty, efficiency, environmental stewardship and productivity. The land is cultivated in a way that is diverse and harmonious with nature. Farming practices include ample use of compost, cover crops, beneficial insect habitats, crop diversity and crop rotations, to ensure the long-term viability and fertility of the land.
