Fair Shares is dedicated to helping more people gain access to fresh, local, seasonal, sustainably-produced food in the St. Louis area.
We think knowing where your food comes from is the first step in preparing safe, wholesome food for your family. We put together a weekly share of locally-produced foods from a variety of farmers and producers to give shareholders a well-rounded example of our local bounty. We direct the focus to the farmers and producers so you'll know exactly who raised your grass-fed beef, grew your arugula, collected your eggs, made your cheese and baked your bread.
By sourcing from multiple farmers, we offer a great variety of produce in the shares, rather than being limited to what a single farm is able to grow, or not grow, due to soil, weather and other factors.
We give tips on storing your food and recipes to help you prepare each week's menu. Our website is a resource for members to learn more about the importance of supporting small, local food producers--and why not to support the industrial food chain. Our Facebook Group allows members to share recipes and ideas on how they prepared the food in their shares.
Pick-ups are Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and are time specific due to the frozen and cold items included in the shares. Pick-up locations are Kirkwood (Thursdays), University City (Wednesdays) and midtown St. Louis city (both Wednesdays and Thursdays). We also offer a Delivered-to-the workplace (or school) option on Thursdays.
Subscribers pay a joining fee of $50 and a weekly fee of $50 plus tax for 48 weeks (payable in a variety of payment plans on a pre-paid credit basis). Half share members pick up for 24 alternating weeks. We also offer a weekly Mini-Share option, which is 30% smaller than the full share. You can jump in any time during the season. We also offer a two-week trial. See our website fairshares.org for details.
Fair Shares donates food throughout the year to help families in need, and we are building relationships with non-profit organizations who work toward the goal of helping food-insecure families to get healthy, nutritious food.
