The Market at Pepper Place, established in Birmingham's historic Lakeview neighborhood in May of 2000, supports small Alabama farms, food producers and artists, and connects them to the those who live in the Greater Birmingham Metro area.

From our humble beginning with a few tents in the parking lot of Pepper Place, the Market has grown to over 90 tents each Saturday morning, spread across parking lots and streets around Pepper Place District. All farmers, food and artisans are Alabama-based and grow and make all items they sell at the Market. Attendance has grown over the years, drawing as many as 10,000 people per Saturday at the height of the season. The Market's season begins in mid-January and ends in mid-December.

As the season change and nature slows down, so does the Market. The number of farmers and other sellers drops to around 45 vendors each Saturday morning. The Market offerings also change from spring bedding plants, herbs, lettuces, asparagus, and strawberries; blackberries, blueberries, peaches, mushrooms, sweet corn and tomatoes in summer; to a wide variety of root vegetables, squashes, greens, sweet potatoes and pumpkins.

The Market hosts sheep farms, goat and cow farmers who offer cheeses, eggs and meats. We are home to several local beekeepers who bring honey and honey products; local bakeries who bring freshly made breads, pastries, cakes and pies, plus several farmers who bring home-canned jams, jellies, chow-chow and pickles. Birmingham's local chefs bring everything from salsa to Thai food, salads and gelato.

Many shoppers meet friends at the Market on Saturday mornings and share a cup of coffee or tea, a breakfast burrito or Southern Biscuit with sausage. Dogs are welcome, along with baby strollers, wheelchairs and walkers of all ages! Musicians are on site providing jazz, bluegrass or Americana tunes.

Throughout the year, the Market features many local Alabama artists, artisans and craftspeople from pottery, jewelry, prints to original canvas art and woodcrafts.

The Market is open to SNAP/EBT sales, Alabama Senior Nutrition Vouchers and all farmers and vendors accept debit/credit cards. ATM machines are onsite, along with indoor restrooms, coffee shops and restaurants in the area, free on street parking and parking lots for customers.

Market Hours are 7:00 a.m. - Noon every Saturday, Rain or Shine - Holiday weekends, too!
