Historically, gastronomic accounts date the Christmas Lima bean to the 1840s.The bean, which is often called the Chestnut Lima because of it similarity in taste to the nut, is a large, white, flat seed with maroon spots and swirls. These intricate designs remain on the bean once it is cooked. The Christmas Lima has a full-bodied, nutty, chestnut taste and the texture of baked potatoes. It is used in both its mature green state as a shelled Lima for eating fresh, freezing or canning as well as used dried, cooked into stews and casseroles. We are a Beyond Organic facility/Farm. We grow a wide variety of Trees and Plants. From ornamental and shade trees to fruit and nut trees. We grow a variety of unusual Annual plants and lots of Veggies and Fresh Herbs.
We do not use harmful chemicals or pesticides of any type. We grow everything from seed or cutting from specimen plants and trees. Our growing medium is sterile medium, perlite, compost, sand, and mulch and a healthy amount amount of local soil.

Our farm has been in the same family since the early 1800. It is currently farmed by two generations, Jim and Kate Smith and their daughter, Maggie Smith. For direct retail sales we raise angus cross breed cattle, pastured laying hens and heirloom vegetables.

Sustainable farming and responsible living are a way of life at Blackbird Heritage Farm. We only grow vegetabes from which we can save seeds. This means no hybrid or genetically modified seeds. Our 16 acre farm is divided into three plots which have been put into a three year rotation; animal pasture on year one to vegetable production on year two to beneficial grasses on year three, then back to animal pasture.

Bray Family Farms has a variety of products available to the local community thru our CSA's and at farmers markets in Marietta, Smyrna and Powder Springs. Our chickens are free to run on pasture and lay beautiful brown eggs. Our pastured Tamworth hogs are a rare heritage breed known for a leaner meat. We also have grass-fed Black Angus cows, with no growth hormones or antibiotics. We raise and sell 5-7 lb. pastured broiler chickens every 8 weeks.
