Jacob's Cattle bean, also called a Trout bean or an Appaloosa bean, is a Prince Edward Island heirloom. Legend has it that it was a gift from Maineā??s Passamaquoddy Indians to Joseph Clark, the first white child born in Lubec, Maine. It is a plump, white and red speckled, kidney-shaped bean with vivid maroon splashes. It is full-flavored, holds its shape under long cooking, and stands up well to plenty of seasoning. The bean has a rich aroma. It is a little tannic on the tongue and tastes almost like a green bean with a slightly fruity aftertast

Alchemy Farmhouse~ Locally Grown Magic Alchemy Farmhouse is a small Hudson Valley farm dedicated to natural methods and local sustainability. We use farm-made compost in addition to aged manures and crop rotation to grow our delicious vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs--transforming seeds to gold! We are a new farm located on 5 acres in Rainier, Oregon. We grow kids, animals, vegetables, fruit and whatever else that will hold still long enough to get planted. The farm may be new, but we are experienced growers. We are excited to be creating a diversified family farm. Our focus is on raising nourishing fare from healthy soils. Food meant to be enjoyed simply. As a small start- up farm, we are not currently seeking certification.

Our farm has been in the same family since the early 1800. It is currently farmed by two generations, Jim and Kate Smith and their daughter, Maggie Smith. For direct retail sales we raise angus cross breed cattle, pastured laying hens and heirloom vegetables.

We specialize in high quality gourmet varieties of garlic and also grow a wide variety of vegetables using natural and organic methods. We work as hard at growing our soil as we do our produce.
